A study of the central act of worship, devotion, and sacramental life of the
One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
DOGMA
Father McKinnon, Elizabeth Fielder, and Will Prusik
(Required course for all FOURTH year conferees.)
Something is happening to us today... We are waging a war of religion... a
life-and-death struggle between Christian and pagan. It is a war of dogma.
The word dogma is unpopular and that is why I have used it... It is a lie that
dogma does not matter; it matters enormously. It is fatal to let people
suppose that Christianity's only a mode of feeling... It is on the contrary a
hard, tough, exacting and complex doctrine steeped in a drastic and
uncompromising realism." From Creed or Chaos by Dorothy L. Sayers..
MORAL RELATIVISM
Father Stambaugh, Jesse Shedden, and Helen Mulhern
(Required course for all conferees attending the Conference for the FIFTH or
more years.)
Moral Relativism is a politically correct notion that ethical truths depend on
the individuals and groups holding them. It is very popular but very
anti-Christian. No Surprise! As usual, the politically correct are
wrong! The text for this course is A Refutation of Moral Relativism
by Peter Kreeft.
Second Period Elective Courses for Juniors
WORSHIPPING GOD IN VERSE
Michael Zadig, Elizabeth Fielder, Jonathan Harrison, Sarah Marcisak, and
Taylor Watts
The critic, John Caird, wrote that poetry is man's best means of perceiving
most profoundly the actions and consequences of his own emotions. We will
see how people have described, experienced, and spoken to God through verse.
SEVEN DEADLY SINS
David Perry, Elizabeth Hudson, Kate Wood, and Daniel Montgomery
You must be kidding! Sin isn't deadly, it's fun. Only
self-righteous Puritans get uptight about sin. Relax and enjoy life while
you're young. This is the only chance you'll have. Right?
THE BAPTISMAL COVENANT
Father Stambaugh, Father McKinnon, and Jesse Shedden
Did I say that? What am I going to do about it?
Second Period Elective Courses
for Seniors
WORSHIPPING GOD IN VERSE
Michael Zadig, Elizabeth Fielder, Jonathan Harrison, Sarah Marcisak, and
Taylor Watts
The critic, John Caird, wrote that poetry is man's best means of perceiving
most profoundly the actions and consequences of his own emotions. We will
see how people have described, experienced, and spoken to God through verse.
SEX FOR CHRISTIANS
Father Robinson, Emma Melo, Emily Marcisak, and Will Prusik
"I do not the good that I want, but I do the evil that I do not want."
St. Paul's words describe the sex lives of many Christians. Knowing what
is right and wrong, sexually, is not enough. We need to know how to do the
good and avoid the evil.
PAGANS, ATHIESTS, AGNOSTICS, THEISTS, HERETICS
Sister Mary Charles, Mark Dwyer, and Mrs. Davis
Christians live with people whose beliefs are very different from their own.
What do they believe? As Christians how should we deal with their beliefs?
Ignore them? Try to convert them? If so, how?
Third Period Elective Courses for Both Juniors and Seniors
CHOIR:
Mark Dwyer, Mrs. Engels, and Michael Zadig
(This course may be taken by BOTH Junior AND Senior Conferees)
A choir rehearsal in which Anthems will
be learned for Mass and Evensong.
Third Period Elective Course for

THE CHRISTIAN IN THE 21st CENTURY
Emma Melo, Emily Marcisak, and Taylor Watts
Christian, the world is waiting for you like a lion to tear you apart and
strip you of your faith. While it is easy to be a Christian at St.
Michael's Conference, it's another matter in the "outside world" in the common
routines of work, school, sports, parties, dating, etc. How do you keep
the faith there?
ACTIVITIES FOR YOUTH
Chris Wood, Mrs. Davis, Beth Harrison, Jonathan Harrison, and Sarah
Marcisak
A study of ways the youth of the church can be involved in positive ways in
their parish and diocese, and be aware of major "events" that are affecting The
Episcopal Church.
Third Period Elective Course for
Seniors
HEAVEN AND HELL
Helen Mulhern, Kate Wood, and David Perry
"We are not living in a world where all roads are radii of a circle and
where all, if followed long enough, will therefore draw gradually nearer and
finally meet in the center, rather in a world where every road after a few
miles, forks into two again, and at every fork you must make a decision."
From the Preface of The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis, which will be read
and discussed.
THE TRUTH ABOUT MUHAMMAD
Father Cheney and Nathan Davis
Islam's founder, far from being the Jesus-like "man of peace" of media
presentation, was, in fact, cruel, licentious, and the originator of the violent
jihad ideology that is his most lasting legacy.
